Word families

Word families group words that share the same ending pattern.

We organize lists around endings like -an, -at, -en, -et, -ig, -og, -ot, -ug, -un, and -ut so learners notice rhymes and repeating spellings. Once a child can read cat, hat and pat become easier because the ending stays the same; only the first letter changes.
